We all know of the dangers lurking behind the dark corners of the web, but here is a super-simple step to make your WordPress installation much more secure with virtually no effort.
Simply move your wp-config.php file one level above your public HTML folder.
If WordPress cannot find the config file in the root, this is where it will look, so there are no settings to change, simply move the file in your preferred FTP client or even your hosting control panel. It really is as simple as that!
There are lots more security steps you can take to lock down your website, some involve installing plugins, some involve editing your server system files and some require editing your theme’s functions file itself.
